Drag, Wendy McCawe, Pōneke Photo Press, Edition 1
Drag presents smoking as a shared, habitual gesture – an intimate pause repeated with friends, strangers, and fleeting encounters. In a culture where smokers are becoming a rarity, this series records a fading public ritual and the micro-communities it shaped. By lingering on small, ordinary moments, Drag shows how identity is performed in the everyday, and how even the most transient gestures can hold social and emotional weight.
Wendy McCawe is a lomo and film photographer based in Pōneke, recognised for her evocative street photography and her distinct on-camera flash style.
Pōneke Photo Press
Pōneke Photo Press is a limited-edition photo zine publisher focused on local photographers showcasing stories from our city. Each edition is curated through close collaboration with the photographer; together, we define the edition's theme and carefully select the photos.
Founded in 2026, Pōneke Photo Press brings together experience in publishing, design, and photography to create a recognisable zine series. Four editions are released each year, each following a consistent layout and format, creating continuity across the catalogue and keeping the focus on the photography itself.
