Digitising negatives, slides, photos, videos

Digitising negatives, slides, photos, videos

When I was a kid, I would flip through all my parents' photo albums, fascinated by all the memories that were in front of me. Then I would stumble across these brown strips of plastic that would be called negatives. Every roll that was shot was then developed, then printed with the original negatives slipped into their own pocket. Now these photos are gathering dust on the shelf. As time passed, always looking at my screen, I thought it would be nice to be able to view these photos on my phone or on my laptop.

Recently I have undertaken a big task to get a whole bunch of these negatives scanned and digitised. This has been an awesome and gratifying task as there is more detail versus a 6x4 inch print. Sending these photographs to family and friends that haven’t seen the photos has also been beautiful and connecting. It was a daunting task but was easier than I thought.

Splendid Photo develops and scans film, however we also offer digitisation of already processed film. Negatives of most formats, slides and even prints. If you have been thinking about getting some digitisation done, it is a good idea to do it as soon as you can. The longer you leave film or print, depending on the storage, it is likely they will continue to deteriorate and age.

Social resolution scans for an entire roll is $10, medium resolution is $15.

$3 for a slide, however the more you bring in, the cheaper it gets.

We upload the scans to google drive, you access it and just download it from there. Unfortunately, you won't find a lab that will print from the negative, however, that is ok! We can print from the scan.

We also offer digitising of videos. Old home videos, Cassettes, VHS, Super 8, Mini DV, Hi8, Digital8, DVD… the list could go on.. Bring it in and we can have a look at what we are dealing with and we will let you know the price and turnaround time.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, you may as well flow with it, keep the originals safe but have the digitals on hand, they will be more accessible and won’t break - you may find with originals that haven’t been kept safe that issues may occur so nip it in the bud and get it done.

Ultimately if you need help and any of this is resonating with you, come in and at least get a test of what our scanning service has to offer. We will ensure you get what you need done.

Flick us an email hello@splendid.nz or pop into our Tamaki Makaurau / Auckland store or Te Whanganui-a-tara / Wellington store and our friendly staff will always be willing to help.
